Forty Bergman Films to be Screened in Brazil During April

Brazil will be holding a massive retrospective of Bergman during the month of April. During that time, more than forty films will be showing.

Initiator Cristina Leifer says the following about the project:

“Bergman no Teatro is the realization of a dream! I have heard many people say that Bergman was only for a “smart audience,” within quotation marks to show the ironic tone of expression. I reply by saying that Bergman is for a sensitive, humane and thinking public.

Far from shallow psychologism, Bergman’s rich filmography brings us face to face with our subjectivity, with our emptiness, like we were in front of a mirror and see each other’s insides. And to bring the scripts of his films to the theatre is a pleasurable challenge.

Theatre is the place of encounter. And through him I was able to find many things. And the main one is recognition of the importance of two beautiful encounters in art, vividly human, which are the actors on stage and the actors with their voyeur, the audience.”

Here’s more information over at the Bergman website, and here’s the Brazilian page organising it. They have heaps of videos and information about Bergman, so I strongly recommend checking it out.
