Finnish domestic films top one million admissions

Finnish domestic films returned from the summer break with Inari Niemi’sSummertime, which had its premiere on August 1st. The great opening result of Summertime (the film has now been seen by 54.602 spectators) brought this year’s total domestic admissions over the one million threshold. The total number of movie admissions this year has been 4.4 million, making the current domestic share 23 percent. The domestic share for last year was also 23 percent.

Domestic family films have once again been very successful this year. MarkoMäkilaakso’s Ella and Friends 2, SaaraCantell’s Jill and Joy and TimoKoivusalo’s Ricky Rapper and Slick Leonard account for nearly half of the domestic film admissions. Ricky Rapper and Slick Leonard is also the most watched film of the year so far with 262.000 admissions.

The domestic comedies have also proven to be popular this year. Kummeli V, directed by Aleksi Mäkelä, is the second most watched film of the year with 180.000 admissions. Saara Cantell’s The Two and Only and Samuli Valkama’sNo thank you have both exceeded the 100.000 admissions this year.

In 2014 there has been 21 domestic film premieres, seven of which have been documentary films. However, the domestic films have had an exceptionally long summer break  – in June and July there have been no domestic premieres. So far there are 13 domestic premieres announced for the Autumn season.
