Festival Report: Listen

The short film Listen by Hamy Ramezan and Rungano Nyoni has been awarded as the Best Narrative Short at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Listen has recently won the Firebird Award for the best short film at 39th Hong Kong Festival, the Grand Prix at the REGARD Sur le Court Métrage Festival as well as the Prize of the Youth Jury and the Tampere Short Film Nominee for the European Film Awards 2015 at Tampere Film Festival. Aspen Shortsfest gave the film a Special Jury mention.

Listen takes place at a police station in Copenhagen, where a foreign woman, wearing a burqa, is filing a complaint for domestic violence. However, it seems that the translator is not willing to report what she is telling.

Listen was produced last year as a part of the Finnish-Danish collaboration Nordic Factory. The four films of the Nordic Factory premiered as the opening screening of the Directors’ Forthnight in 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Listen was also screened at 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. The Nordic Factory films were supported by Finnish Film Foundation, New Danish Screen / DFI and Copenhagen Film Fund.
