DR announces new TV drama starring Lars Mikkelsen

Danish pubcaster DR is continuing with their self-produced television series and is producing a new series called Rides Upon the Storm (Herrens Veje), which will be based on a religious family in the Danish Church.

The story is based on the biblical tale of Cain and Abel, the two sons of Adam and Eve. Cain was a crop farmer and Abel was a shepherd. When they sacrificed to God, he preferred Abel’s sacrifice over Cain’s. Cain ended up killing Abel, committing the first murder.

Rides Upon the Storm is written by Adam Price (Borgen) and directed by Kaspar Munk. The series will star Lars Mikkelsen and Ann Eleonora Jorgensen, and the couple’s two grown sons are played by Simon Sears and Morten Andersen Hee.

“Despite the fact that the Danes might not consider themselves a fiercely faithful people, therefore we are surrounded by faith in our everyday lives. And faith fills in the public debate, both atheists encourage people to leave the church, and when we discuss integration, refugee crisis, terrorism or the US election. But when we seek within ourselves and cultivate mindfulness, hipster-Buddhism or the familiar mixture of superstition and spirituality and agree that there is more between heaven and earth”
