Norway’s new rebate, in which a portion of the production funds are refunded if the film is shot in Norway, is proving to be popular in its first year – after starting with Jo Nesbø’s The Snowman being filmed between Bergen and Oslo now another international production has signed on to film in Norway.
Alexander Payne’s eagerly awaited Downsizing will now be shot in Western Norway and Lofoten as it seeks the unique Norwegian coast and fjords the region so wonderfully provides. The Paramount Pictures production stars Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, Alec Baldwin, Jason Sudeikis, Neil Patrick Harris, Christoph Waltz and some Nordic names including Rolf Lassgård (A Man Called Ove).
The Norwegian shoot is handled by Per Henry Borch for Truenorth Norway, a company set up by Borch and the Icelandic team known for bringing US productions to Iceland, Truenorth. Truenorth has offered production services in Iceland for films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Batman Begins, Flags of Our Fathers, Prometheus, Noah,Oblivion and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
