Doctor Strange to open CPH:PIX

Denmark’s biggest film festival, CPH:PIX, is set to open with the upcoming Marvel Film, Doctor Strange, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and everyone’s favourite Dane, Mads Mikkelsen.

In a rather surprising announcement, the festival announced this opening film ahead of their relaunch, which sees the festival move to a new time of year and join with the school and family festival, BUSTER.

No doubt a big film to opening the festival, it’s also rather unfortunate they didn’t go with an upcoming Danish release, especially since the festival is heavily supported by the Danish Film Institute and other Nordic companies.

This very anticipated feature has Cumberbatch as a damaged neurosurgeon who sets out to repair his hands only to find himself protecting the world from inter-dimensional threats. Doctor Strange is opening in Denmark one week before it premieres in the US.

The festival’s opening night will also see the handing out of the Nordic Film Award to a new Danish filmmaking talent, so there is some love for local filmmakers that night.

Will Mikelsen attend the premiere? We sure hope so – just to make things a little more Danish.
