Denmark’s ‘The Charmer’ will have North American distribution

The Danish film The Charmer has been picked up for North American distribution by the company Film Movement, Variety reports.

The film, which is directed by Milad Alami, is a psychological drama that follows an Iranian living in Denmark who has to try and enter into a relationship to claim residency in Denmark before he is forced back to Iran.

The film has screened at the Nordic Film Days, Gothenburg Film Festival, Palm Springs Film Festival, and Chicago Film Festival. It premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Film Movement will release the film at New York’s Film Forum in December and then roll it out into additional markets before a release on digital and home entertainment.

“One of Film Movement’s missions is to uncover fresh new voices from the international filmmaking community, and we’re certainly doing that with Milad,” said Michael Rosenberg, president of Film Movement. “We’re excited to share his assured debut – part hot-button, social issues drama, part dark brooding thriller – with film lovers throughout North America.”
