Daníel Bjarnason wins The Harpa Award 2018

The Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason has won this year’s Harpa Nordic Film Composers Award for his score in the Icelandic black comedy Under the Tree.

The award was handed out as part of the Nordic Film Music Days held in Berlin on the 18th of February.

Bjarnason’s nomination text by STEF:

Daniel Bjarnason’s minimal yet powerful score lends the film a darker tone and underlines the tensions that boil under the quiet, suburban surface.
It’s used in a sensitive way and packs the story with emotions when it needs to. In other places it gives the story a thrilleresque tone and prepares the audience emotionally for the dark and surprising ending. It is a minimal score, composed with few elements, which resonates very well with the overall aesthetics of the film.
