Concrete Night is Finland´s Entry for Oscars

Pirjo Honkasalo´s Concrete Night (Betoniyö, 2013) has been selected by Finland´s official selection committee as the Finnish contender for the Foreign Language Film Oscar.

Concrete Night is produced by Misha Jaari and Mark Lwoff for Bufo Ab. It is based on a novel by the same name written by Pirkko Saisio. The script has been written by Pirjo Honkasalo and Pirkko Saisio. The cast includes Johannes BrotherusJari VirmanAnneli KarppinenJuhan UlfsakAlex Anton and Iida Kuningas. Key crew includes cinematographer Peter Flinckenberg, editor Niels Pagh Andersen, sound designers Jan Alvermark and Robert Sörling, set designerPentti Valkeasuo costume designer Saija Siekkinen and make-up designer Pia Mikkonen.

Concrete Night had its international premiere last year at the Toronto Film Festival in the Masters section. After the Toronto premiere, film has toured numerous film festivals, winning eg Golden Arena Award for the Best Feature Film at 61st Pula Film Festival this summer. Concrete Night had its theatrical release in Finland on November 1st 2013 and was distributed by Cinema Mondo Ltd. The foreign sales are handled by Film Republic.

The Finnish jury, consisting of film professionals, praised Concrete Night for its exceptionally fine cinematography and touching story, which create a unique world both poetic and impressive.
