Claire Foy the frontrunner to become the next Lisbeth Salander

Sony may have found its next Lisbeth Salander, Variety reveals.

The Crown star Claire Foy is the frontrunner in the upcoming Sony film, The Girl in the Spiders Web, which will be the next instalment in the Millenium series in the US. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was released back in 2011, and now Sony has skipped over books two and three and gone straight to the reboot, which was written by David Lagercrantz based on ideas by Stieg Larsson.

The Girl in the Spiders Web starts when Mikael Blomkvist receives a call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker—a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the centre of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it…

The book currently has a 3.7/5 on Goodreads.

But one deal could stand in the way of Foy being the next Salander, as she is currently also in talks to star in Damien Chazelle’s next film, First Man, which stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong.

Previous Lisbeth Salander’s have been played by Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara.

The studio will now look for its Mikael Blomkvist, who was played by Michael Nyqvist in the Swedish Dragon Tattoo and Daniel Craig in the US Dragon Tattoo.

The Girl in the Spiders Web will be in cinemas in October 2018.
