Cast announced for the remake of Susanne Bier’s 2006 film AFTER THE WEDDING

Michelle Williams has joined Julianne Moore in the remake of Susanne Bier‘s Oscar-nominated Danish film After the Wedding, the Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The original film was released in 2006 and starred Mads Mikkelsen, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Rolf Lassgård. It followed Jacob Pedersen (Mikkelsen), who runs an orphanage in India and has adopted a young male orphan, Pramod. With growing financial pressures, Jacob receives an offer of funding from a wealthy Danish citizen, Jorgen (Lassgård). Jacob must travel to Copenhagen to get the assistance and meet with Jorgen, whose daughter is getting married that weekend. Jacob realises that Jorgens wife, Helene Hansson, is an old lover of his, and the daughter getting married, Anna Hansson (Stine Fischer Christensen) is actually is. To complicate things further, Jorgen is dying of cancer. Jacob slowly realises that this all was a ploy to prevent him from returning to India.

Williams will play the orphanage owner, probably the Jacob character, and Moore plays a wealthy businesswoman, probably the Jorgen character.

The remake is written and directed by Bart Freundlich and produced by Joel Michaels and Silvio Muragila for Paradox Studios. Production will begin in the spring.
