It’s well known that family and childrens films in Norway are incredibly popular, and the release of the new film Casper and Emma’s Winter Vacation, directed by Arne Lindter Næss and written by Alexander Eik, has proven this with a very strong opening in Norway. In less than two weeks, the film has had 220 000 admissions, being the strongest release in 2014 so far. The film has been proven to be so popular that they are already working on a third installment of the series, titled Casper and Emma on Safari.
The film is based on a children’s book by Tor Åge Brindsværd, and is the story of two young friends, who, while on winter holidays, jeopardise their relationship by the arrival of Peter, whom Casper thinks Emma is paying far too much attention to.
Another children’s film, The Christmas of Solan and Ludvig, topped the charts in Norway in 2013 with 854,395 admissions and received the Silver Nugget, the honorary prize of the Norwegian Exhibitors Association, as Best Film for Children and Youth Audiences 2013.
