BORG/MCENROE to open the Toronto International Film Festival

JenThe upcoming Swedish film Borg/McEnroe will open the Toronto International Film Festival. This is the first time that a Swedish film has been the opening film at the festival.

Borg/McEnroe tells the story of one of Sweden’s most-renowned icons – Björn Borg. The film is about Borg and his biggest rival, the young and talented John McEnroe and their legendary duel during the 1980’s Wimbledon tournament. It’s a story about two men who changed the face of tennis and who became legends and the price they had to pay.

The film stars Sverrir Gudnason and Shia LaBeouf as well as Stellan Skarsgård and Tuva NovotnyBorg/McEnroe is directed by Janus Metz, whose previous film was a Cannes award-winning documentary called Armadillo. The script is written by Ronnie Sandahl, who previously wrote and directed Underdog.

The film will open on the 7th of September, the day before its Swedish premiere. The actors, director and producers will be on hand in Toronto.
