Bo Mikkelsen Starts Shooting Sorgenfri

Bo Mikkelsen

After making numerous shorts, Danish writer-director Bo Mikkelsen will commence principal photography this month for Sorgenfri, his feature debut, which will shoot in his own town of the same name, in Nordsjælland, with Mille Dinesen and Troels Lyby in the leads.

Mikkelsen has himself scripted the thriller about a family of four, whose lives change drastically when a mysterious virus breaks out in Sorgenfri. Now it is all about raw survival, and the question is whether their unity is strong enough to survive the crisis.

“I am happy that we have signed up such strong actors for the cast,” said Mikkelsen.Sorgenfri is a horror film focusing on close relations – family, neighbours and friends – in a small residential street. It is about what happens when everything we take for granted is suddenly taken away from us, and we are being pushed to the limit.”

Dinesen, in the role of the mother, Pernille, had her breakthrough in Nynne (2005) and most recently won a Golden Nymph for Outstanding Actress at Monte Carlo for the TV series Rita (2012). Lyby, as the father, has twice received the Danish Film Academy’s Robert for Shake It All About (2001) and Accused (2005), and he played one of the leads – together with Anders W Berthelsen and Nicolaj Kopernikus – in the The Reunion[+](2011) and The Reunion 2: The Funeral[+] (2014), both local blockbusters.

With a cast including newcomer Benjamin Engell as the family’s teenage son and MarieBoda as their new neighbour opposite, Sorgenfri will be produced by Sara Namer for Copenhagen’s Meta Film. Local distributor SF Film has scheduled the Danish release for the autumn holidays 2015.
