Bille August’s new film to premiere at Shanghai International Film Festival

Danish auteur Bille August’s new film, The Chinese Widow, is set to premiere in competition at the upcoming Shanghai International Film Festival.

The Chinese Widow is a Chinese history drama about a World War II American Air Force pilot who emergency lands in China’s Zhejiang Province after a bombing run on Tokyo. he is rescued by a young Chinese widow and a love story ensues.

The film stars American actor Emile Hirsch and Chinese actress Yifei Liu. It is produced by the Chinese production company Zhejiang Roc Pictures. August is a two-time Palme d’Or winner and recently served as the jury chair at the Beijing International Film Festival. 

It is not known when the film will have a general release.
