The cast has been announced for Danish director Lone Scherfig’s next film, which is known as Secrets From the Russian Tea Room but officially untitled.
Scherfig will reunite with Bill Nighy, who starred in her previous film Their Finest. The cast also includes Landry Jones and Jay Baruchel. Andrea Riseborough, Tahar Rahim and Zoe Kazan have been previously announced as cast members.
The film will be set in a Russian restaurant in New York, the famous Russian Tea Room (though the fact the movie is no longer named after it may suggest this may no longer be the case). The main characters as Clara (Kazan), a mother looking to avoid her abusive cop husband; Alice (Riseborough), a shy ER Nurse who runs an eclectic therapy group called Forgiveness; Mark (Rahim), an ex-con who now manages the restaurant; Jeff (Jones), a young man who needs a job; John Peter (Baruchel), a lawyer with high ethics but low self-esteem and Timofey (Nighy), owner of the restaurant and the grandson of Russian immigrants.
Filming started last month in Toronto, Canada, and will also shoot in Copenhagen and New York. No release date has been announced.
