BELOW THE SURFACE to screen in the UK this month

The Danish hostage drama Below the Surface will (finally) air in the United Kingdom.

The series, which was created by Kasper Barfoed, will screen on BBCFour in the United Kingdom on the 10th of March at 9pm.

Below the Surface begins with the hijacking of a subway train and then follows each day as the hostages are trapped underground, with the hijackers making demands for money. As the officer assigned the case begins to dig deeper, he realises that the hijacking is linked to his own experience of being a hostage in Afghanistan.

The taskforce is led by Philip Norgaard (Johannes Lassen) and Louise Falck (Sara Hjort Ditlevsen). I can’t reveal who plays the hijacker, but it’s a well-known and loved actor. Interesting to the story is the fact that the hijackers are more interested in dealing with a journalist, played by Paprika Steen, then with the police. Among the actors playing the hostages is Alba August, who is a 2018 European Shooting star, and Dar Salim, who was in Borgen.

We reviewed Below the Surface, and you can find it in the new issue of Cinema Scandinavia.
