BECOMING ASTRID picked up for U.S. distribution

The new Swedish biopic about Astrid Lindgren, Becoming Astrid, has been picked up by Music Box Films for US distribution.

We are looking forward to bringing the inspiring yet untold story of one of Sweden’s most beloved writers to U.S. audiences” says Music Box Films President William Schopf.

Directed by Pernille Fischer Christensen, the film follows the early years of renowned children’s author Astrid Lindgren and the events and influences that shaped her to become the icon she is today. When Astrid Lindgren was very young something happened that affected her profoundly, and this combination of both miracle and calamity came to shape her entire life. It was an event that transformed her into one of the most inspiring women of our age and the storyteller a whole world would come to love. This is the story of when a young Astrid, despite the expectations of her time and religious upbringing, decided to break free from society’s norms and follow her heart.

The film has also been sold to Spain (Caramel Films), Poland (Aurora Films), Israel (Shoval Film Production), Germany, Austria, Switzerland (DCM), China (DD Dream), Benelux (September Film), Baltics (Estin Film), Russia CIS (Capella film), Czech Republic/Slovakia (Cinemart) and Scandinavia (Nordisk Film).

Becoming Astrid will be released in Sweden in September.
