The British channel BBCFour has picked up the Danish hostage series Below the Surface (Gidseltagningen in Danish), the Nordisk Film og TV Fond reports.

The series, which is based on an idea by Nordic Noir creators Adam Price (Borgen) and Søren Sveistrup (The Killing) and directed by Kasper Barfoed (Dicte), examines how the fallout from a hostage situation affects every level of Danish society as fifteen hostages are taken on a train in Copenhagen. Below the Surface stars Johannes Lassen, Sara Hjort Ditlevsen and Paprika Steen.

Below the Surface had previously postponed its release in Norway after the terrorist attacks in Stockholm back in April.

So far, the series has been sold to more than 70 territories.

Below the Surface is set to screen on British television in 2018 and a second season has already been announced.
