Baltasar Kormakur potentially directing a film on the same topic as Spielberg

Rumours are currently circulating on the next project Icelandic director Balatasar Kormakur will be working on.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kormakur is in talks with American film producer Harvey Weinstein to direct the Weinstein Company’s next film, which is based on a true story. The story revolves around the kidnapping of a six-year-old Italian/Jewish boy named Edgardo Mortara, who was subsequently brought up as a Catholic. Weinstein is said to want Robert DeNiro to play the role of Pope Pius IX.

However, Steven Spielberg is planning to direct a film on the exact same topic. He was originally supposed to work with the Weinstein company but decided to go out on his own.
