Anna Odell’s next film gets world sales deal

Swedish filmmaker Anna Odell’s next film, which is currently untitled, has been picked up by New Europe Film Sales for world sales, Screen reports/

The feature film will have Odell star alongside Mikael Persbrandt, Trine Dyrholm, Sofie Gråböl, Vera Vitali, Thure Lindhardt, Jens Albinus and Shanti Roney. The film will examine masculine and feminine identities, mixing reality and fiction in an effort to create conflict.

The film is currently in post-production with the release due for mid-to-late 2018.

Anna Odell’s projects have been known to cause controversy in the past. The film Okänd, kvinna 2009-349701 was made to reconstruct Odell’s own psychological breakdown in 1995 to prove the power structures within healthcare. In 2009, for the film, she staged a suicide attempt and was taken to the emergency room. The next day she revealed to the hospital staff that it was fake, and she was criticised for taking staff away from actual patients in need. 

In 2013 Odell made her directorial debut with The Reunion, which brings up the subject of bullying. You can watch the trailer for this film below.
