AMC picks up Iceland’s PRISONERS

The Icelandic television series Prisoners has been picked up for distribution in multiple countries around the world.

The series follows Linda, who is sent to Iceland’s only women’s prison after she is accused of viciously assaulting her father, who is now in a coma. However, things are not all that they seem, and Linda has a secret that she keeps to protect her family. Prisoners is co-created by Margrét ÖrnólfsdóttirNína Dögg Filippusdóttir and Unnur Ösp Stefánsdóttir. Shudder and Sundance Now have picked up season one for North America, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Prisoners was hugely successful in Iceland, with more than 100,000 people (of Iceland’s 320,000 population).

Season two has been announced and is currently in development.
