Alicia Vikander to voice Moomins in new film

Possibly the most Scandinavian title ever?

Swedish actress and Academy Award-winner Alicia Vikander is set to voice two Moomins in the upcoming Moomins motion picture titled Moomins and the Winter Wonderland.

Vikander will voice Little My and Sorry-oo, and Stellan Skarsgård will voice Moominpoppa. He is also executive producing the film.

Moomins are Finnish storybook characters that have beloved around the world. They were created by Finnish writer Tove Jansson in a series of books and comic strips, originally published in Swedish in the 1940s. The iconic fairy tale characters — a carefree family of white, roundish creatures with large snouts that make them resemble lovable hippopotamuses — are a staple of kids culture around the world, thanks to translations of the original books and comic strips, along with television and film adaptations, and even a theme park called Moomin World in Naantali, Finland.

Moomins and the Winter Wonderland will also be the first Moomins film to screen in Chinese cinemas, with the LA-based group Global Genesis inking a deal with Hong Kong’s Spring Era Films that will see a theatrical release.
