A new Finnish political thriller has been announced

A new Finnish political thriller has been picked up by the country’s leading streaming service, Elisa Viihde, Variety reports.

Called Sphere of Shadows, the series will have ten episodes and be set in the 1950s in Helsinki. It takes place during a time where the focus point was the Cold War, and will explore global powers and their intelligence agencies in relation to Finland, a neutral country that stands between the east and the west. The series follows a secret intelligence team who have to defend the independence of Finland, no matter the cost.

The series is inspired by the true historical events, and it is already boasting the fact that it’s the first political thriller series in Finland.

Sphere of Shadows will be directed by AJ Annila, whose latest film The Eternal Road was a huge hit in Finland. The series was written by Kristi and Katri Manninen, the well-known mother and daughter pair. Production starts this autumn, with a release date set for the end of next year.
