A new Danish movie will focus on the original Queen Margrete

A new film about Denmark’s Queen Margaret has been announced.

Set in 14th-century Denmark, the biopic will follow the story of Queen Margrete the first.

Queen Margaret is famous in Scandinavian history. She was the one who unified the thrones of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway in 1397 in what is referred to as the Kalmar Union.

Charlotte Sieling (who directed The Man plus episodes of Borgen and The Bridge) is directing, with Jesper Fink writing the screenplay and Lars Bredo Rahbek and Birgitte Skov producing. No casting has been announced, though maybe we could see someone like Trine Dyrholm in the leading role?e

The biopic has received funding from Netflix, the Danish Film Institute, and SF Studios. Filming will commence in the autumn of 2019 throughout Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, with the dialogue being in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, English, and German.
