A comedy series about the Olof Palme case has been announced

A new comedy series about the Olaf Palme case has been announced, the Nordisk Film og TV Fond reports.

Titled We Got This!, the series will follow an odd American living in Stockholm who becomes obsessed with a SEK 50 million reward for solving the unsolvable assassination of Olof Palme, who was Sweden’s former Prime Minister. Pulling in an unlikely crew of investigators, including his wife, a journalist and a conspiracy theorist, the main character begins to work on the case.

The story is partly inspired by Schiaffino Musarra’s (pictured) own experience. Musarra is an actor and writer from the US, who moved to Stockholm with his wife ad co-produced the Swedish feature film A Swedish Midsummer Sex Comedy. Schiaffino listed his inspiration for the series as being ‘the Big Lebowski investigating the JFK case’.

“At the beginning, no one wanted to touch the project,” Schiaffino says to the Nordisk Film og TV Fond. “I was pretty unknown, the Palme unsolved case is very touchy in Sweden and people were sceptical about my idea to do a satire. My intention is to poke at the multiple conspiracy theories, private investigations and to play on the cultural clash between the American ‘can do’ attitude and Swedish approach. Eventually I put together a short script, hired a crew, shot a trailer, and when I showed it around, it changed the conversations.”

We Got This! is among 16 international projects selected for Series Mania’s Co-Pro Pitching sessions, which takes place this week.
