11 Nordic television series selected for Serie Series

11 Nordic television series have been selected for Serie Series, which takes place in Fontainebleau from the 26th of June.

The event focuses on European television dramas and their creators. The opening series is the BBC’s A Very English Scandal by Stephen Frears. State of Happiness will close the event.

Finland

THE WHITE WALL

Screening in ‘What’s Next’

The White Wall is a sci-fi drama about a mysterious white wall, found deep underground, at the mining site of the world’s largest final depository for nuclear waste.

INVISIBLE HEROES

Screening in ‘In the Pipeline’

The series focuses on Tapani Brotherus, an officer for the Finnish Embassy in Chile during the Pinochet coup in 1973.

The Finnish premiere will be in 2019.

Iceland

Starring Heida Reed, Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson

Heida Reed (Poldark) stars as Stella Blómkvist, a sexy, hard-nosed and quick-witted lawyer with a dark past, fluid sexuality and a taste for whiskey and easy money. Her cases always lead to danger and her latest will plunge her into a violent political conspiracy.

Robert Kastell returns to Sweden after having been presumed dead for thirty years. A personal tragedy has made him leave his exile, and sent him on a last journey of revenge – – the target being the successful arms trade broker Anders Speths. Robert is soon discovered by Rolf Höglund, a conspiracy theorist and former journalist. Rolfs tries to persuade Robert to focus on exposing the double standards and illegal deals behind the Swedish arms industry, rather that his personal vendetta. Robert knows that much of what Rolf talks about is true. He was himself a part of this dirty business before he faked his death and fled the country. When Rolf mysteriously disappears, his daughter Åsa gets very worried and filled with guilt. The last thing she said to her father was that he was crazy conspiracy theorist and an alcoholic. Her husband Mario uses Rolf’s history with addiction to ease her worries. He’s probably only on a binge. He’ll soon turn up again.

The Swedish release date is set for 2019.

The series tells of three women who manage to stir things up in a small community where people have barely heard of the May 68 protests in Paris, much less the bra burning going on across the Atlantic!

The Swedish release date will be this Christmas.

WEST OF LIBERTY

West of Liberty is a spy series adapted from a novel by Thomas Engström.
