100th Anniversary of Theodor Christensen


From the 1st of May the DFI will be celebrating Theodor Christensen’s 100th anniversary with an exhibition at the Film House, a film series at the Cinematheque, a streaming service online, and a special issue of Kosmorama.

Theodor Christensen, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in April, was a central figure in the building of Danish documentaries. The Danish Film Institute marks in May birthday with a series of events to illustrate the master and his work.

Show in Filmhuset

On May 1, opens the exhibition ‘An act of photos’ in Film House ground floor of Theodor Christensen’s work and life in film clips and pictures. The exhibition is free to visit and runs until 1 February 2015.


Similarly, May 1 published online magazine Kosmorama with a track dedicated to Theodor Christensen. The publication contains a series of essays written by the filmmakers Dola Bonfils, Ole Roos, Henning Carlsen, Jon Bang Carlsen, Franz Ernst and Arne Bro – and will be available on kosmorama.org .

On April 6, Theodor Christensen’s ‘real’ birthday, published Kosmorama also this birthday greeting in the form of an introduction to Theodor Christensen and his work.

Film Series at the Cinematheque

On May 1, the Cinematheque Theodor Christensen’s magnum opus ‘This is your freedom’ (1946) with ‘All my ships’ (1951) which previews. Film Researcher Lars-Martin Sorensen introduces the films.

Throughout the month of May the Cinematheque 5 times Theodor Christensen film with the introduction of various experts. Read more about the series and book tickets .

Streaming Movie Services

Finally, marked the anniversary of the streaming service Film Centre, on 1 May present the first 10 Theodor Christensen movie online free for the Danish population. Read more at filmcentralen.dk .
