Life in a Fishbowl
Our face when we saw how many awards ‘Life in a Fishbowl’ won

The glitz, the glamour, the rain. Yes, one of the biggest and most important film award ceremonies was held over the weekend, where the biggest names in cinema got together to celebrate all that is good about the movies they make. No, we aren’t talking about some small-time American awards ceremony, we are talking about Iceland’s Edda awards. The annual Edda awards, hosted by the Icelandic Film and Television Academy in Reykjavík’s Harpan, saw the best of Icelandic film gather together and praise all their work.

And by praise all their work, we mean praise Life in a Fishbowl.

The film seriously dominated the awards ceremony, taking home a total of twelve awards. We get that Iceland is a small country, but they are also known as one of the most creative countries in the world, so twelve awards by the one film is rather impressive. At this point, it may as well be called the Life in a Fishbowl awards. This is a new record for the Edda awards, and I can’t see it being topped anytime soon. To be fair, I’m a little surprised Paris of the North didn’t get more love. (we reviewed the film!)

Other films and shows were made in Iceland, so they deserve some love too. The Cliff II – Depth of Darkness by Reynir Lyngdal won the Edda Award for TV Fiction of the Year, Chum by Jörundur Ragnarsson won the Edda Award for Short Film of the Year andImpact by Ágústa Einarsdóttir received the Edda Award for Documentary of the Year.

Television personality, musician and environmental activist Ómar Ragnarsson received the Icelandic Film and Television Academy Honorary Award.
