Swedish Film Institute veteran Gunnar Almer has passed away aged 62 after a sudden heart attack.

Almer joined the Swedish Film Institute thirty-nine years ago as an assistant at the film archive. He then became a programme director at the Swedish Cinematheque, before moving to the international department in the late 90s – serving as a festival manager for feature films.

He was a respected and popular fixture on the film festival circuit, where he promoted Swedish films abroad.
