Swedish actor Matias Varela will star in the third season of the US/Colombian Netflix series Narcos.
Varela was born in Stockholm and has acted in major Nordic productions including the Danish series Arne Dahl, Once Upon a Time in Phuket and Easy Money II & III. Most recently, he had a role in the film Assassins Creed.
Varela’s parents are Spanish, so Varela is able to speak Spanish, Swedish, English, Galician, and Portuguese, a feat which will likely come in handy as Narcos chronicles the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine and drug cartels across the globe. It centres on Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar and Steve Murphy, a DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and kill him.
In season three, the DEA turns its attention to the powerful Cali Cartel and its four kings known as ‘The Gentlemen of Cali’. Season three will air from the 1st of September. Narcos has been renewed for a fourth season.
