The filming crew for the new Stars Wars movie (episode VII) will come to Iceland this April according to Fréttablaðiðnewspaper in Iceland. It is believed that Icelandic production service company, Truenorth, will assist the crew once they come to Iceland. Just a couple days ago, we posted the amazing trailer to come from Truenorth, so it only makes sense that they would film there!

According to sources, people from the movie’s production crew have been in Iceland lately to look at possible locations for the film. It is believed that the crew looked at some point at Langjökull glacier.

It’s still unsure how big a part will be filmed in Iceland but that should depend on how it goes finding good locations.

It is possible that most of the filming in Iceland will be plate-shootings of the environment, used later as a background for scenes that are filmed with the actors in a studio.

The Star Wars sequel trilogy is the upcoming third film trilogy in the American space opera franchise Star Wars created by George Lucas. It is being produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and is to be the first films in the saga not to be distributed by 20th Century Fox. The trilogy will consist of episodes VII through IX and will follow after Return of the Jedi (1983) in the saga’s chronology. Lucas originally planned a sequel trilogy in 1975 during development of Star Wars (1977). However, by the 1990s, Lucas said this trilogy would not be made. In 2012, The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm and scheduled production for a third trilogy.
