The fourth instalment of the Department Q series, Journal 64, has begun shooting in Denmark.
The series has proven incredibly popular in both Denmark and around the world. The Danish films always do remarkably well at the box office; A Conspiracy of Faith had 704,971 admissions in 2016, The Absent One had 764,002 admissions in 2014, and The Keeper of Lost Causes had 721,170 admissions in 2013.
The fourth film is rumoured to be the last one with lead actors Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares, with Nordisk Film securing the rights to the remainder of the books in the series. It is understandable that the leads would want to move onto other projects, if that is proven to be the case, with Fares Fares becoming an international star and Nikolaj Lie Kaas continuing to star in top-notch Danish films and television drama (most recently You Disappear).
Journal 64 is described as ‘a series of mysterious disappearances in 1987 are all eerily connected to the same person.’
Hans Petter Moland will not direct the film, perhaps being too busy with his US remake of In Order of Disappearance. Instead, Christoffer Boe will direct the film. The film has been written by Nikolaj Arcel, Bo Hr. Hansen, and Mikkel Nørgaard. Zentropa is producing along with Film Väst, and the release date is said to be the 8th of October 2018 in Denmark, with an international release highly likely to follow.
