Karukoski’s Latest Triumph Set for Toronto Premiere

Yellow Affair Press Release

Following on the heels of last year’s success with Heart of a Lion, Dome Karukoski, one of Variety’s ‘10 Directors to Watch’ has directed a quirky comedy called THE GRUMP, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2014 in the Contemporary World Section. (screening times below)

THE GRUMP is about a cantankerous old man whose old school stubbornness is put to the test when he is forced, due to a heavy fall, to move in to the city with his sharp business minded daughter in law. The two instantly butt heads, with hilarious consequences, and pretty soon the daughter wants him out. But there’s more to the old git than she originally thought. And likewise, he has a thing or two to learn from this modern woman. So what starts out as a tragicomic disaster turns out to be a touching story about new discovery, tolerance and closing the generation gap.

The film is written by Dome Karukoski and Tuomas Kyrö and directed by Karukoski. Karukoski’s films have been recognized and released the world over and have received great acclaim and awards at A list festivals. THE GRUMP was produced by Jukka Helle and Markus Selin for Solar Films.

The Yellow Affair is handling the film for world sales and will be attending Venice and Toronto.
