Swedish director Maximilian Hult’s first feature, Home, will finally be domestically released on 11 July after an international, award-winning festival tour, where it most recently scooped the Grand Prix at the Febiofest – Prague International Film Festival (28 March).

Shot mostly on locations in Iceland, then in Stockholm, during the summer of 2012, Anna G Magnúsdóttir and Anders Granström staged the project for Sweden’s LittleBig Productions. The movie was launched last October at the Busan International Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award, followed by the Ecumenical Jury’s Best Film Prize at Mannheim-Heidelberg (November).

With Moa Gammel in the lead, Home follows a 26-year-old female mathematician, Lou – super bright, but socially awkward – who lives with her mother (Lia Boysen) in Stockholm and thinks she is her only relative. So she is shocked when she learns that her grandfather has just died; she packs her bags, moves in with her grandmother in a small village by the seaside and gets her orderly life turned upside down in an unexpected love story.

Swiss-born Hult, who made no-budget shorts with his friends at high school before studying film in New York and Stockholm, also wrote the script for the romantic drama, which co-stars Anita WallErik LundqvistSimon J Berger and Lars Lind. Co-produced by Oscar-nominated Icelandic director-producer Fridrik Thór Fridriksson’sHughrif-SpellboundHome will be domestically distributed by LittleBig Productions.
