The latest film by the Finnish director Klaus Härö, has started filming in Estonia. The director, known for Mother of Mine, is now working on The FencerThe Fencer (Miekkailija) is the story of a young Estonian man, who in the early 1950’s arrives to a small Estonian coastal town after fleeing Stalin’s secret police. He starts teaching local school children how to fence, finds through the children his inner calling and gets into problems with local communist bureaucrats. In the title roles are Märt Avandi, Ursula Ratasepp and Hendrik Toompere. The €2m project is co-produced by Germany’s Kick Film and Estonia’s Allfilm. Nordisk Film will handle domestic distribution.
